The West Maui Counseling Center specializes in child, adolescent and adult psychological services. They are unique in their “team” approach toward finding the best solutions for their patients. “We each have individual cases, but we also work as a listeningteam. We meet every week for treatment team meetings and as a result, our patients receive better care”, explained Dr. Kelly Harnick, who is the founder and owner of West Maui Counseling Center.

WMCC’s team of psychologists trained at prestigious universities and provides a safe, caring, and confidential environment. “The combination of academic excellence at the doctoral level and genuinely caring about the well-being of each of their patients is what makes my team special and so good at what they do”, says Dr. Harnick, who is also Board Certified, a credential above licensure as a psychologist. The team includes Dr. Linda Sattler and Dr. Eliot Altschul who are Stanford-trained Clinical Psychologists, and work with children, their families, adults, individuals and couples. Dr. Altschul was also on the faculty at Columbia University in the Child Psychiatry Department. Rounding out the team is Dr. Thomas Chen, a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist who is particularly skilled at counseling men and working with both individuals and couples, as well as Dr. Jan Yomogida, who is a postdoctoral fellow and also a registered dietitian. Coming in April is Dr. Stephanie Napoli, who is a Child Psychologist and is highly skilled at Parent/Child Interaction Therapy, will be joining the team and will help children with behavioral difficulties while strengthening the parent/child bond.

Children, in particular, are well received at the office, which has a special play-therapy room where children can find different ways to express their personalities and feelings. Having a safe area where a child can use their own intuitive capabilities to process and express themselves, allows for healing on different levels. “We have created a space where a child can feel very comfortable to connect with a deeper part of themselves through play, and by doing so, we can help give them strategies to cope with their difficulties”, explains Dr. Eliot Altschul.

Because of the array of psychologists and “team” effort they provide, West Maui Counseling Center offers Maui families a new option for quality mental health care. They provide a lot of support and there is something for everyone.
