The community exchange is a moneyless consignment. Parents bring clothes their kids have grown out of and trade them for new sizes (infant- preteen sizes). The kids fair is all free- giant bouncehouse, games, bbq, and shave ice.

 

Makawao Public Library’s 45th Anniversary Celebration

Fun events are planned from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm., including the Hula Honeys at 2:30 pm.

Makawao Public Library, located at 1159 Makawao Avenue in the heart of historic Makawao town on Maui, will celebrate its 45th Anniversary with special programs and events on Saturday, February 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The public is invited to attend this free gala celebration.

The schedule of events includes:

  • 9:30 a.m. – Hawaiian Blessing by Kalei Johnson
  • 10 a.m.-noon – Magic and Face Painting with Cirque Jolie
  • noon – Light Refreshments and Anniversary Cake
  • noon-1 p.m. – Performance by King Kekaulike High School Ukulele Group, directed by Casey Nagata
  • 1:30 p.m.-2 p.m. – Makawao History Presentation by Maui author and historian Gail Ainsworth
  • 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. – Performance by Hula Honeys, Na Hoku Hano Hano Award-winning duo Ginger Johnson and Robyn Kneubuhl, featuring a blend of vintage Hapa Haole songs with hip jazz classics

The Maui Friends of the Library is sponsoring this special anniversary celebration.  Events are subject to change.

 On Thursday, February 20 at 10 a.m., the Library will host “The Emperor and the Nightingale,” a free play based on the Hans Christian Anderson classic and written by Page Hearn.  This pre-Anniversary program, presented by the Maui Alliance for Performing Arts, will feature a performance by actors Jesse Fisher and Marsi Smith, with puppets, costumes, masks, live action, and audience participation.  The Maui Friends of the Library is sponsoring this program which is suitable for ages 5 and older. All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

The Maui Intermediate Public School Massed Band Concert

The Maui Intermediate Public School Massed Band Concert will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at the MAUI HIGH SCHOOL Gym.

The concert starts at 6:30 and will feature band students many of Maui’s middle schools including Kalama, Lokelani, Lana’i, Maui Waena, Iao and Lahaina.
