With more than 165 years of history behind it, St. Antony School launched this fall of a first-time middle school, the hiring of a new grade school principal and the launching of a refreshed brand and website. Soon, St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School expects to establish a new state-of-the-art Communication and Media Lab.
Newly-hired Grade School Principal Linda Keizer was hired in July 2016 following the retirement of Winona Martinez, a 1962 St. Anthony graduate who dedicated more than four decades of service to Hawaii’s Catholic school students. An educator with 28 years of experience, Keizer most recently served as principal of Our Lady of Grade Catholic Academy in East Moine, Illinois. She worked as substitute teacher for St. Anthony Grade School after recently moving to Maui. “I felt welcomed and part of the family from the minute I stepped on the campus,” Keizer said. “Since my first experience with St. Anthony Grade School, I knew the good news was being lived out in every minute of every day and a place where I wanted to be!”
At the new middle school, the focus has been to provide a progressive education experience for sixth- through eighth-grade. Housed in a refreshed physical environment, the students are organized around the TRIBES ™ philosophy, creating a safe, inclusive place for all and a sense of family or ‘ohana. Integral to their basic, solid curriculum is an exploratory course in which middle schoolers have already planted a school garden, flew drones, performed in a dramatic play and created a new online campus blog.
The long-awaited Communication and Media Lab is poised to be ready by the end of the fall season. The CAM Lab features a 21st Century Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based laboratory and a state-of-the-art space for project-based learning that encourages team building and the production of video, digital media, film and TV content.
Scholarships and tuition assistance are available for students enrolling at St. Anthony School.
