Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide high quality, authentic Montessori education to the children of Maui.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to inspire our Keiki to grow into peaceful, loving and happy members of the global community by providing a Montessori environment that allows each child to reach his or her full potential. We envision a world where people love learning, trust and help each other and live happy, productive lives. We know that we must nurture the children as a community and give them our best love and care to realize this dream. Our promise is to be life-long teachers to our students and to protect and cherish the Keiki of Hawaii.

Why the name Little Monk Seal Montessori?

Connecting with the ‘āina through our State Mammal

The Hawaiian Monk Seal is critically endangered (only 1,100 remaining) and serve an important role in the marine ecosystem. They are one of the few mammals in this state that are only found here in Hawaii. Monk Seals are apex predators and serve to control levels of numerous prey populations to maintain a healthy, functioning ecosystem. They are one of the most primitive mammals in the sea and are Hawaii’s State Marine Mammal!

Learning about the Monk Seals’ importance in the ecosystem of the Hawaiian Islands offers the opportunity to educate generations on issues such as sustainability, climate change, and the environment. By incorporating lessons about the Monk Seal in our curriculum, and better understanding these precious mammals, we are teaching the children the values of their home and place on this earth. We teach the children to respect the land, life and ocean that we are so fortunate to have.

Children have a natural passion to take care of things. By getting the children interested in the saving the Hawaiian Monk Seal (a mammal that only exists where they live) they believe they are a part of something important and that they are capable of making a positive impact on the earth! Little Monk Seal Montessori provides lessons that integrate science experiments, special naturalist visitors, and more “place based” activities to allow the children to truly connect with their home and environment.

Admission (Download the Admission Form Now)

LMSM is open to all families on a space-available basis. Children must be three years old and completely toilet trained (no pull-ups or diapers used) by their first day of enrollment. LMSM reserves the right to withdraw a child at any time if we feel they are excessively harmful to peers, teachers, environment or self. We reserve the right to withdraw a child if they are not abiding by the rules and regulations of LMSM. In the event of withdrawal, whether it is the decision of the family or LMSM, a tuition refund will not be given and parent/guardian will still be responsible for the contracted amount of tuition monies due.

Application/Registration

You may ask to have an application e-mailed to you. After we receive your completed and signed application, we contact you to schedule a parent/child interview and tour.

Enrollment [child’s space is confirmed by the directors]

Following your first interview and tour, you will receive your enrollment contract, and these required forms:

1) State Dept. of Health Form 14 health record (physical exam and TB clearance done within the 12 months prior to entry, and current immunization records). Medical and religious exemptions are allowed by State law for immunizations only. You must present a medical exemption form signed by the child’s physician. Your child must have a current TB clearance to enter school. We may accept a notarized exemption statement on official letterhead from your religious organization.

2) Preschool Emergency Information card (this goes everywhere we go) LMSM requires copies of court documents affecting your child (e.g. legal guardianship, custody, TRO). If your child has an IEP, we require a meeting with your child’s IEP team or lead consultant prior to enrollment so that we may determine if we are best suited to meet your child’s needs.

Your enrollment contract, documents, and $1,050.00 payment (first month’s tuition) are due within 2 weeks of your interview. We reserve the right to withdraw our offer of enrollment if this deadline is not met.

Tuition and Fees

LMSM operates as a tuition-based program. It is essential that all families are on time with tuition payments. We regretfully reserve the right to terminate enrollment when payments have not been made on time for two consecutive months. Tuition for those months is due regardless of termination. Terminating enrollment is not in your child’s best interest, so we ask for your cooperation. Should circumstances arise that affect your ability to pay tuition, please see the director right away, as we may be able to connect you with community resources to assist you. If you withdraw your child, you must give two month’s notice, and tuition is due in full for the final month of your child’s initially contracted enrollment period. Please ask the directors for more information.

Late Payment Fees

There is a $25/month fee for delinquent tuition payments and a $25 processing fee for checks returned with insufficient funds. Only cash payments will be accepted after a check is returned. There is a $1.00 a minute charge for late pickups for attendance schedules.

There are NO registration or application fees at LMSM! To ensure enrollment at LMSM a check of $1,050.00 is due within two weeks of acceptance after the interview process as stated above. This will be considered the first month’s tuition for your child. A ten month contract agreeing to pay $10,500.00 total for the school year will also need to be signed at this time.

Tuition of $1,050.00 is due the first Monday of each month. A check written out to Little Monk Seal Montessori is the only form of payment we will accept. It is to be put in the tuition box in the school’s office or handed directly to the teacher doing car line that day. Thank you for your cooperation. There is a 3 day grace period for this payment. After this grace period it will be considered late and the fee applies.

Receipts

Receipts will be issued by the directors after payment is received. Please retain all receipts through the end of the calendar year for your tax records. No copies will be issued.
