Kahului Hongwanji Mission is a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temple founded over 100 years ago (1911 – 2011) in Kahului, Maui, Hawaii. It is an affiliate organization of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.

Welcome to Kahului Hongwanji Preschool
Our primary objective is to help parents with the social, physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth of their child. To develop a well-rounded, wholesome individual, the “total child” needs to be nurtured. The purpose of the preschool is to foster competency in young children in all areas. Competence shall be thought of as relating to all aspects of the self: Learning to live comfortably with others, learning to master one’s feelings and expressing them safely and constructively, loving life, and welcoming new experiences. Kahului Hongwanji Preschool shall strive to provide a wide variety of sensory, motor and intellectual experiences in a safe, happy and loving environment.

Classes – Most classes have only 10 children. We like to keep the class size is small for individualized instruction.
Staff – We are proud that Kahului Hongwanji Preschool Teaching staff have over 138 years of experience combined!
We have 4 classes with approx. 10 students each. All of our teachers love children and have dedicated themselves to early childhood education. They all have a minimum of an Associates degree and all have been teaching for a minimum of 10+ years.
Dalmatain Class – 3 year olds

Ms Val holds an AA and has been teaching for more than 20 years.
Kitty Cat Class – 3 & 4 year olds
10 students
Teacher: Ms Fran
Ms Fran holds both an AA and a CDA (Child Development Associates) and has been teaching for more than 33 years.
Teddy Bear Class 4 year olds
10 students
Teacher: Ms Terri
Ms Terri holds both an AA and a CDA (Child Development Associates) and has been teaching for more than 20 years.
Seal Class 5 year olds (Born after August 1st) who miss the Kindergarten cut off

Ms Angelica is a former Kindergarten teacher with a BA in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Childhood course work for teaching Preschool.

Exciting News!!! We have a new class for FIVE YEAR OLDS! (Born after Aug. 1st)
This past year our Seal class became the FIVE YEAR OLD CLASS. Children who do not make the cut off for KINDERGARTEN are eligible for our PRE K Class taught by former Kindergarten Teacher Ms. Angelica who is also trained in Early Childhood Education. Spaces are limited!
