Immerse yourself in hands-on art projects, see demos in the Hui’s professional art studios, picnic on the lawn, and view the Hui’s incredible new themed exhibition — a collaboration between the Hui, Auwahi Forest Restoration Project (AFRP), local artists, and 2018 Artist in Residence Mazatl!

Hui No‘eau is hosting its annual Family Day 2018 on Saturday, June 30th from 10am – 2pm at Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center. The family friendly event is open to the public with free admission.

Family Day is an annual event that welcomes the community to enjoy art, music, food, and fun at Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center. Hui No‘eau will be offering art projects for a small fee for all ages, as well as live artist demonstrations in glassblowing, printmaking, jewelry, and more! There will be an arts-based scavenger hunt FREE for the first 100 keiki. Guests can shop, sip, and support local artists at Hui No‘eau’s Art Market: Crafts and Drafts (root beer, that is!), featuring Made on Maui product vendors and root beer generously donated by the Maui Brewing Co. Families can enjoy live entertainment and picnic on the lawn with food from Three’s Bar & Grill Food Truck and Maui Empanadas, and drinks from VitaliTea Kombucha.

This year’s Family Day also marks the opening of the Hui’s upcoming Wahi Pana Auwahi Exhibition in collaboration with Auwahi Forest Restoration Project and Hui No’eau’s 2018 Artist in Residence, Mazatl. Mazatl is a graphic maker from Mexico City who utilizes public space to communicate ideas and emotions and seeks to create conversations towards collective liberation. His work includes large-scale woodcuts in public areas as well as graphic murals. He is dedicated to collaborating with groups, collectives, artists & movements that seek social, political, and environmental justice in local communities. Mazatl is a member of the Justseeds Artist Cooperative, a group of socially engaged graphic makers in Canada, the USA and Mexico who work collectively in the production of printed materials & installations worldwide. He is also a member of Animal Power Crew, an international graffiti crew devoted to creating work in public areas. Mazatl’s work is displayed in exhibitions worldwide.

Throughout his 6-week residency at Hui No’eau, Mazatl is transforming the Hui’s History Room (located within the walls of the 100 year old historic Kaluanui home) by creating a large-scale mural inspired by his experience on Maui, and specifically his experiences at Auwahi Forest Restoration Project in Ulupalakua. The mural will be opening on Family Day, June 30th and will remain in the Hui’s History Room for visitors to enjoy daily from 9am – 4pm with free admission.

Hui No‘eau is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community based visual arts education organization. The Hui is open to the public daily from 9am – 4pm with free admission. Visit huinoeau.com for more information.
