Fire Prevention Week: First Week of October

The theme for fire prevention week 2015 is: “Hear the beep where you sleep.  Every bedroom needs a smoke alarm!”

dalmationThis theme reminds everyone that smoke alarms are our first line of defense when it comes to fires in the home.  Batteries need to be changed annually and the smoke alarms need to be tested monthly.  Furthermore, every home should have a home evacuation plan identifying two ways out of every room in the house.  Of equal importance in this plan is the designated meeting place where accountability of every individual in the home can be done.  Families need to practice their evacuation plan so that everyone understands what needs to be done in case of a fire emergency within the home.

Keep a lookout for Maui Fire Department’s once-a-year demonstration. Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Dog will also be on hand to cheer everyone on. Bring swimsuits and towels for the post-demonstration hose shower! Contact Fire Prevention at 244-9161 for more information.
