Fire Prevention Week : First Week of October

Keep a look out for Maui Fire Department’s once a year demonstration. Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Dog will also be on hand to cheer everyone on. Bring swimsuits and towels for the post demonstration hose shower! Contact Inspector Kapono Subblebeen at 244-9161 ext. 27 for more information.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 fire that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.

Fire Prevention Week is Sparky’s favorite time of year. This Fire Prevention Week, he wants to make sure that everyone has 2 ways out of every room in their home. If there is ever a fire, and your first way out is blocked, you can use your second way out.

Go to the Maui County Website (https://www.co.maui.hi.us) and look at Fire Education and Fire Safety at the Fire Prevention section of the Fire Department for information on fire education.
