Maui Firefighters take on Maui’s Top Chefs at 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off

The 8th Annual Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety Chili Cook-off Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Events Arena at the Maui Fair. The fundraiser benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children Patient Transportation Fund, which enables children afflicted with injuries related to fires to receive the necessary medical treatment and rehabilitation therapy in their recovery. This year, as in 2011, Maui’s chefs are invited to take part in the action by competing against Maui firefighters for the best chili recipes.

Preparation and cooking will take place at the Maui Fair Events Arena located on the grassy area fronting the War Memorial Pool. Final presentation, awards and sampling will also be held at the Events Arena starting at about 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to sample these delicious creations for a small donation of just $1.00 per bowl, and vote on their favorite.  The People’s Choice wins a cash prize of $300. Categories include Traditional (no beans or pasta), Hazmat/Freestyle (anything goes) and Wild Land (vegetarian). For more information contact Chad Sambrano at 808-357-2134.
