The Schaefer International Gallery at Maui Arts & Cultural Center offers summer classes for kids!


Participants will explore the gallery and work with teaching artists in studio sessions to focus on drawing, painting, printmaking, or sculpture. The perfect summertime place to meet new friends and be creative!

Squishy Play With Clay (ages 5 – 8)
Tuesdays, 10 am – 12 pm, June 6, 13, 20 and July 3
In these classes young artists will keep both hands busy and enjoy the fun of making tiny sculptures. Students will learn basics in modeling, scoring and building a variety of 3-D projects using oil based clay and imagination.

Pop Stories Through Cartooning (ages 9 and up)
Tuesdays, 2 – 4pm, June 6, 13, 20 and July 3
Learn how to draw the human figure with drawings that tell stories through cartooning inspired from Japanese anime and popular comic book series. Students will be using desktop wooden mannequins to learn about proportion, scale, facial expressions and composition.

Roll With It In Printmaking (age 9 and up)
Wednesdays, 10 am – 12pm, June 7, 14, 21 and July 5              
Try your hand at printmaking and learn about the materials and techniques used to make a variety of prints. Experiment with tools, patterns, color mixing, collage and text to build your creative ideas in mixed media exploration.

Paint The World Your Way (age 9 and up)
Wednesdays, 2pm – 4 pm, June 7, 14, 21 and July 5
Learn to paint landscapes in acrylics through realism and abstraction to discover your own style. These classes will also introduce approaches in composition, wet and dry brushwork on paper, and color mixing using nature as inspiration.

Cost: $60 per class, which includes 4 studio sessions and all art materials.
Classes are limited to 15 students. Sign up early to reserve space.
