Holiday Tree and Electronic Recycling Options Available

The County of Maui is reminding residents about options for recycling Christmas trees and unwanted electronics this holiday season.

CHRISTMAS TREE DROP-OFF RECYCLING

Tree recycling is available at the following five locations. All decorations must be removed, including tinsel, for safe composting. Call individual sites for additional requirements.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP RECYCLING

The Rotary Club of Upcountry is holding its curbside Christmas tree pickup service from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, for the Paia, Haiku, Makawao, Pukalani and Kula areas. A $10 donation for each small and medium tree, and a minimum donation of $20 per large tree, is requested; funds will support the club’s community service projects. Pickup must be scheduled by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, by contacting Zak Pacholl at (503) 550-6666.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING

A special, one-time holiday cleanup day is scheduled for free electronics recycling from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the county-funded E-Cycling program location, 901 Lower Main St., Wailuku. Televisions, computers, monitors and printers are being accepted. The program does not accept microwaves, cell phones, stereos, copiers, fax machines, computer games or any other electronic device.

The cleanup day is in addition to the county’s regular E-Cycling location hours, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. The location will be closed Dec. 22 to Jan. 4 due to the holidays.
