Summer’s here and the beach is calling your name! While spending time outside and in the water is a must for most of us, especially here on Maui, your hair can take a beating from the sun, saltwater and chlorine. Here are a few ways you can combat the damage done to your locks and still enjoy your favorite summer activities.
For starters, before entering a chlorinated pool, be sure to rinse your hair in cool water. Then add either coconut oil or hair conditioner, and pull your hair into a braid or bun. This will help prevent your hair from soaking up the chlorine.
If your hair does gain a green tinge from chlorinated pools, you can try using a hair mask made of baking soda to remove the unwanted color. Simply mix about half a cup of baking soda and enough water to form a paste in a bowl. Coat green hair with the paste and massage it into the hair. Rinse with clean water; then wash and style as usual.
If you want to get natural highlights, you can squeeze lemon onto your hair before spending time out in the sun.
To refresh your hair and leave it smelling great, use this DIY Hair Mist: Pour 1/2 cup distilled water and add 5 to 10 drops of essential oils, into a small spray bottle. Shake well before use. Simply spray onto your hair for a clean, fresh scent. Neroli and Chamomile are tow of our favorites!
