Project Backpack–Equipped to Learn!

The goal for Project Backpack is to provide new kindergarten students a new backpack with school supplies. Cash, credit card and supply donations can be made at QKC’s Kokua Korner.  The Kiwanis Club of the Valley Isle will deliver to Maui Economic Opportunity keiki entering kindergarten in the fall.

Maui’s Holoholo Bookmobile and UH Institute for Astronomy Present a Star Party

In celebration of the Hawaii State Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program, the Holoholo Bookmobile and the UH Institute for Astronomy will host a Star Party. It will be held at the Maikalani Advanced Technology Research Center, located at 34 ‘Ohi‘a Ku Street in Pukalani. The event is free and open to the public. View the night sky with members of the Haleakalā Amateur Astronomers, take a tour of the Universe with the Institute for Astronomy, and learn about the Sun with the National Solar Observatory. The Holoholo Bookmobile will be open for tours and giving out Summer Reading incentives, making library cards, checking out library materials, and offering a free craft. Open Ocean Dive Presentation

Learn about the marine life in the 750,000-gallon Open Ocean exhibit. Aquarium divers will share in-depth knowledge about the exhibit’s inhabitants which include schools of giant trevally, stingrays, up to five species of sharks, and more. Included with Aquarium admission.

Open Enrollment for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui School-Based Mentoring Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui is located at Kahului Elementary, Wailuku Elementary, Princess Nahienaena Elementary, and Kamehameha Schools. Offering elementary school students the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a caring and responsible mentor (typically a high school student) in a supervised group setting for one hour after school.
