They just may be the most important holidays of the year—Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Okay, so Halloween or Christmas may take the lead with the kids, but celebrating mom and dad is important.

When kids are small, gift buying is often left to the adults. Below are some great gift ideas for you to put together with your kids. Dad is sure to love these heart-felt gifts.

moms day gift

1. Give the gift of photos

Use sites like shutterfly.com or blurb.com to upload your photos (even from Instagram) and create photobooks or get the photographer of the family a gift certificate to finally get those photos off their iphone.

2. One to grow

Buy a live tree (fruit trees are always fun and colorful) and have the kids gift it to your spouse. Spend Father’s Day planting the tree in the yard together as a family. The kids will love to get dirty in the dirt and watch the tree grow through the years.

3. Get artsy

Kids’ artwork can be priceless, especially with a little batting and a frame. Turn even ordinary drawings into masterpieces Dad is sure to love.

4. Give some relaxation time

While family time is always fun, sometimes a nice relaxing day of pampering, alone, can be the perfect gift. Give a gift certificate to a massage or a handmade coupon Dad can redeem for a day of surfing, fishing or hanging with friends so Dad can recharge.

5. Homemade Hot Sauce

20 fresh peppers of your choice
1½ cups white vinegar
½ tsp salt
3 tsp minced fresh garlic

INSTRUCTIONS

Put on kitchen gloves and wash the peppers.
Cut the tops off of your peppers and slice in half lengthwise.
Pour the vinegar into a sauce pan, add peppers, salt and garlic. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a low boil until peppers are soft (about 10 minutes).
Pour everything into your blender, including peppers and vinegar.
Blend until liquefied.
Add additional heat if desired. If you like it hot, add a Habanero, re-blend and re-taste. Add additional a little at a time.
