Storyteller Dave Del Rocco, a former Public Librarian of the Year and HSPLS Children’s Librarian, will be a featured performer for the 2012 HSPLS Children’s Summer Reading Program at three selected Maui and Lanai public libraries from June 8 to 20.  Admission is free.

Del Rocco will present “Stories from Around the World” – folktales from Hawaii and well as other faraway lands such as Africa, Alaska, Italy, Laos, and the Philippines.  Del Rocco’s tales are mostly humorous in nature and explain how different cultures view aspects of their world.

Del Rocco, who has been a student of the Hawaiian language for many years, received a Bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian language as well as a Masters   degree in Library Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  He has translated more than a dozen children’s books into Hawaiian for the Department of Education’s immersion program.  In addition, Del Rocco recently wrote the Hawaiian translation for two commercially-produced children’s books.
