“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” – Margaret Atwood

The sun is warmer, the skies are clearer, and the days are a bit longer. Take advantage of all that springtime has to offer, with some of these fun Spring activities.

Discover Seeds

Help your children identify which foods they eat that contain seeds. First, gather various foods such as cucumbers, grapes, pecans, sunflower seeds, strawberries, kiwi, sugar snap peas, pumpkin seeds and corn. Help them discover where the seeds are located in these foods, discuss which seeds are more difficult to find, and talk about why they can eat some seeds but not others.

Plant Flowers

Spring is a wonderful time to get outside and dig in the dirt with your children. Pick up seeds or small floral plants at the local nursery, and have fun together preparing the soil or pots for the plants. You can talk about the various shapes, colors and textures of the flowers.

Go on a Nature Walk

Maui offers countless free excursions to explore nature with your children. Have them bring along a journal and pencils to sketch discoveries and make notes from what they see on the walk.

Go Stargazing

Stay up past sunset with your children and go stargazing together. Find an app that explains where constellations and planets are located.

Dance in the Rain

Grab some rain boots and stomp in puddles together for a refreshing outdoor activity.

Make a Smoothie Bowl

Let your children select which fruits and toppings will go in their smoothie bowls. Blend it for them and let them top it with coconut flakes, seeds, banana slices and more!

Play Tag

Create an outlet for some of your children’s energy by playing a game of tag together. Warning! Giggles may ensue and slow you down.
