Free Childhood Development Screening
Friday, February 21 • 2:30pm–4pm
Islands of Hope-Maui Resource Center Kiosk, Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center

Keiki O Ka Aina’s Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool is providing Free child development screening for keiki ages 6 months to 5 years, using the Ages & Stages Questionnaire. They also have resources for parents to support children’s health and development, and information about services for children who need extra help. The location is the Islands of Hope-Maui resource center kiosk at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center, near the keiki play area. The time is 2:30-4pm, Friday, February 21, 2020. Many children who are not developing on track in their toddler years can “catch up” to their typically developing peers with some help. The key is to identify developmental delays early and to get services as quickly as possible. The first step is for parents to know whether their child is developing on track. If the child is not, free services are available to support the child and family and get the child on track before school age. Keiki O Ka Aina staff will help parents understand typical developmental milestones and what to watch for if parents aren’t sure if their child is on track.

Pop-Up Preschool Open Doors Informational Table
Friday, February 21 • 2:30pm–4pm
Islands of Hope-Maui Resource Center Kiosk, Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center

PATCH and Islands of Hope-Maui are hosting a pop-up Preschool Open Doors (POD) informational table on Friday, February 21, 2:30-4pm. LOCATION: Islands of Hope-Maui resource center kiosk at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center near the keiki play area. PATCH staff will be on-site to talk to parents about paying for quality preschool. Preschool Open Doors is Hawaii’s preschool subsidy program to help parents pay for quality preschool for 4-year-olds. This application period is for school year 2020-2021. Applications are due by March 31, 2020. The subsidies are partly based on income. For example, to be eligible, a family of four can earn up to $5,643 per month. Children are eligible for the 2020-2021 subsidy if they were born between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016. If a family is NOT eligible for POD, the PATCH workers can help them find other possible sources of childcare/preschool financial assistance. Maui County has additional subsidies beyond the POD.
