Park-and-Rec-Month-2015-290July is National Recreation and Parks month. Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation will join in the celebration with a proclamation by the Mayor.  The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) will celebrate their 30th anniversary by looking back at our nation’s parks and what things were like 30 years ago.  Here in Maui County, the parks department was established in 1952.  We will celebrate even more years of service to our community, 63 years to be exact.

Hawaii Recreation and Parks Society, a statewide organization of parks professionals, is sponsoring an art poster contest for kids!  We will ask youth to portray what is important to them about parks.  Children at the PALS sites will contribute to the contest.  The poster will serve as education regarding the importance of parks to the quality of life we enjoy.  Parks are one of the reasons that Maui qualifies as the healthiest county in the state according to a recent study.
