Mom Energy

How to Get it, How to Protect it

momBeing a mom, while very rewarding, is also both physically and emotionally exhausting. Even when you aren’t running around or doing for others, you are sure to be thinking of everything and anything at any given time. You are super mom! So how does one super mom keep her energy up and be, well, super?

The key is to take care of yourself. As moms we can set the example and keep ourselves running by choosing a healthy lifestyle. If you feel like your energy tank is running low, try these tips!

Get moving. Hit the gym, go for a walk, go surfing or do a home exercise video. By taking part in daily exercise, you will have more energy. Can’t break away for an hour long pilates class? Take a quick dance break for minutes; turn up the music in your living room and dance. The boogie break will give you a burst of energy to get you through the afternoon or evening after work.

Drink water. Staying hydrated can help you keep your energy levels high. While most of us rush to a cup of coffee, a nice tall glass of water can be even better. Add some lemon, fruit or cucumbers to it for an extra zing.

Get enough sleep. Burning the candle at both ends can make for one very tired mama. Be sure to get enough sleep (at least 7 hours is a good start) so that you can stay healthy and happy for your kids.

Lay off the sugar. Sugar gives you a little jolt for a little while. Then it can make you crash, feeling even more tired than before you ate that piece of candy. Instead, eat foods that give you energy like a yummy green smoothie.

Take breaks. Taking just five minutes to stop, breathe and stretch, or 15 minutes to read outside, can help you gain energy and clear the way for your next task. Fresh air and a little sunshine can help you feel energized and awake.
