Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestras to Perform Spring Concert

Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the H.P. Baldwin Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public; families and children are welcome to attend.

The concert will feature more than 29 student musicians in grades 2-12 on strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. The students represent 11 public schools, three private schools and one homeschool family. Joining the orchestra will be two adult violin students and guest artists Richard Tadaki, Sue Nakama, Stephen Rodrigues, Tami Saito, Julius Galanto and Cody Sarmiento. The Beginning Violin Class, under the direction of Ms. Rona Landrigan, will perform “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star Variation,” “French Folk Song,” “Mozart Serenade,” Beethoven’s “Folk Dance” and “Ode to Joy,” as well as “Frere Jacques” and “Can Can.” The String Ensemble, also under the direction of Ms. Landrigan, will perform Pachelbel’s “Canon in D,” “Divertimento,” “Minuetto from Twelve Duets” by Mozart, “Valse Serenade,” “Edelweiss” from “The Sound of Music,” and the Beatles’ “Penny Lane.” The Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Lance Jo, will perform “Farandole” by Bizet, Verdi’s “Overture to Nabucco,” Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro,” “American Folk Rhapsody No. 1,” “My Fair Lady,” and “A Salute to Richard Rodgers.” Additionally, violin soloist WenLu Duffy will be performing the “Concerto in G  Minor,” composed by Max Bruch. For information, visit www.mauiyouthphilharmonic.org.
