The event blends elite competition with family-friendly cultural activities. Attendees can enjoy canoe sailing and surfing, ancient Hawaiian games, traditional luau, hula, and live music, honoring
our Ama OluKai Foundation beneficiaries.

The ‘Ohana Fun Paddle is a non-timed, non-competitive 3-mile fun paddle designed for all members of the community to get out in the ocean for a good cause. The shorter course is less strenuous, and a great way for paddlers of all skill levels to experience a portion of the legendary Maliko downwind run. No timing chips, no age divisions, just come out and paddle!

$25 entry fee includes a event T-Shirt and a donation to Paia Youth & Cultural Center who graciously hosts the start of this paddle.

The Effects Of Climate Change in Hawaii and Why We Should Care

Dr. Charles “Chip” Fletcher, PhD, a Professor of Geology and Geophysics at UH Manoa, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology and well known climate expert in our state, nationally and internationally, will be giving a free public presentation on “The Effect of Climate Change in Hawaii and Why We Should Care “on Saturday April 29, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the University of Hawaii-Maui Campus, Ike Building Rm 144 (approach Ike Building on Wahinepio St).

The State legislature in 2014 declared that “climate change is the paramount challenge of this century, posing both an urgent and long-term threat to the State’s economy, sustainability, security, and way of life. “ Dr. Fletcher teaches graduate and undergraduate courses emphasizing Climate Change on the Pacific Islands and Coastal Geology. Dr. Fletcher’s work is published in over 50 international scientific journal articles and recently published three books including Climate Change: What the Science Tells Us.

The presentation is open to the public and free of charge. A question-and-answer period will follow and recommendations will be discussed on effective actions we can take on Maui. Seating is limited so you are advised to come early.
