The Kiwanis Club of the Valley Isle and its partners invite you to celebrate our Keiki on Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Keiki Fest is an annual event held on the Great Lawn of the University of Hawaii-Maui College. This annual event promotes a positive, safe and healthy environment for Maui’s Keiki. It is a fun-filled family event with FREE games, prizes, Keiki I.D., jumping castles, activities and entertainment. Low cost food will be available for purchase and there will be vendors with Keiki related items as well as non-profit organizations. Selected children will have the opportunity to participate in the Bike Safety program to learn and practice safe bicycling skills.

Students entering grades 3-7 will spend their summer singing, dancing and acting in this high energy camp culminating in six public performances at Steppingstone Playhouse of the musical Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids.

Imua Family Services and its Board of Directors welcome you to celebrate with Imua Family Services at the 2nd Annual Fantasia Ball Gala Fundraiser Event.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 6:00 in the evening, at the luxurious Grand Wailea Resort & Spa in the magnificent Haleakala Ballrooms. The evening will begin with cocktails and will be followed by a spectacular Pacific Island Cuisine Buffett by the Chefs of the Grand Wailea. We will then move into the program celebrating the lives of Maui’s Keiki. The evening is illustrious with spectacles of visual and musical entertainment, from acrobatics and dance performance to vocal styling’s from some of Maui’s most talented teens. A presentation from both our Honorable Mayor of Maui as well as the Governor of Hawaii can be expected.

There will be dancing! Kelly Covington and Espresso Band will delight us on dance floor with class and jazz, while the Fantasia After Dark promises to be the After Party of the Year with the Hottest combination of DJ’s, VJ’s and performers that will take us partying until the wee hours of the morning!

This is the largest fund-raising event of the year and your participation is very important. Our event committee, Board of Directors and Imua Staff is gratified and proud that its fundraising efforts, partnered with our sponsors and donors, have impacted the lives of hundreds of children on Maui with special needs, developmental delays and disabilities in a meaningful way at the most critical time of their life.

“Sing Along with Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band,” a free musical program, will be presented at Kihei Public Library on Friday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Area.

“Uncle Wayne” Watkins, an Early Childhood educator and musician, will inspire children to get up, dance, and move to the music.  Watkins currently serves as Director of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Children’s Center.Everyone is invited to attend this program, especially families with young children.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.Kihei Public Library is located at 35 Waimahaihai Street.  For more information, please call the Library at 875-6833.

 

Keiki Can Read to a Therapy Dog at Kihei Library in April

“PAWS for Reading,” a free program for keiki in grades 1 through 5, will be offered at Kihei Public Library every Saturday in April 2013.  The programs will be conducted on April 13, 20, and 27 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Area.

Yoshi and JasmineThe Hawaii Canines for Independence, a non-profit organization that provides people with physical disabilities specially-trained dogs to assist them in living more independent lives, will present the Reading Educational Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program which is said to improve children’s reading and communication skills.  Reading to a Therapy Dog can help build a keiki’s reading confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and is a lot of fun.

Parents should contact the Library to sign up their children for 15-minute reading sessions.  Pre-registration is required.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver, and be on time for their session.

Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
