Check out these natural combinations to nourish your skin and hair this summer.

A touch of sunshine for your hair

To lighten your hair naturally and without harsh chemicals, use the power of the sun along with either chamomile tea or lemon essential oil. Mix chamomile tea or lemon essential oil with distilled water in a spray bottle, and spray it on your hair before you head to the beach. Be sure to test this on a small section first, before spraying it all over your hair.

After-Sun spray mix

  • 2 tablespoons of witch hazel
  • ¼ cup of aloe vera gel
  • ½ teaspoon of vitamin E
  • 2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil (or other carrier oil)
  • 10 drops of lavender and 2 drops of peppermint essential oils

Mix all the ingredients together and put the mix in a glass spray bottle. Spray on your skin to cool you off and to rehydrate your sun-parched skin.

Coconut oil for your hair

Add coconut oil to your hair all day at the beach. If you have long hair slather with coconut oil then braid your hair. The sun will add heat and activate the coconut oil into your hair shaft. Or after a salty day at the beach, wash your hair normally and then use coconut oil as a conditioner. Add it to your hair and let it sit for 3 minutes; then rinse off. Your hair should be left sleek and conditioned.

Don’t forget the sunscreen

For healthy skin all summer long, be sure to use sunscreen – preferably one that’s reef safe. And don’t forget to add it to the tops of the ears, neck, and along the hair’s part line.
