It may be too warm for snow here on Maui, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make cool holiday crafts. Here are three ideas to get you and your little ones into the season, even if you’re wearing a bathing suit while doing them!

Mini snow globes

What you’ll need:

  • Recycled baby food jar or mason jar
  • Gold paint or spray paint to paint the lid
  • A mini tree or some kind of mini holiday figurine
  • Glass glue or Epoxy
  • Glitter
  • Glycerin (you can find this at the drug store)
  • Distilled water

First, if recycling a clean baby food jar, remove the label. You can soak it in hot water and then use lemon essential oil or Goo Gone to get rid of any residue.

Paint the lid gold using either the spray paint or gold paint. Once dry, glue the mini tree or holiday figurine to the inside of the lid. The lid will be the bottom of the snow globe, so glue your figurine right side up. Allow this to dry 24 hours so that the figurine doesn’t fall off when the kids shake their snow globe.

Once everything is dried and set, add the following ingredients into the jar: glitter, distilled water, and 5 drops of glycerin. (Use more glycerin if you are using a larger mason jar.)

Tighten the lid onto the jar. Then turn it over so the lid is on the bottom and the figurine is right side up. Give it a little shake to watch the glitter fall. Your kids will love this!

Make it snow on Maui

Snow on Maui? Really? Yup! And it’s done with just two ingredients!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 box of baking soda
  • 1 can of shaving cream

In a plastic bin or bucket, put the entire contents of your box of baking soda. Slowly start to add the shaving cream. Soon you’ll see the “snow” start to form. It should be light, fluffy and cold!

Your kids will be amazed. Let them make snowballs and snowmen, and have fun with their snow on Maui!
