Family Hui Hawaii and The Hawaii Association for the Education of Young Children celebrate Month of the Young Child with Free ‘Ohana Concerts

Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band know how important the earliest years are in shaping children’s learning and development from many years of “edutaining” their fan base: our youngest keiki. Family Hui Hawaii (formerly the Baby Hui) also knows what it takes to help young children thrive from their 30+ years of creating parent support groups, neighborhood by neighborhood. That’s why both groups are encouraging parents and children to connect with each other and with other parents and children by dancing, singing and moving to Uncle Wayne’s inspirational songs of love and caring for each other, the ‘āina and the ocean in April, celebrating The Month of The Young Child™.

In conjunction with Ho‘oikaika Partnership and Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui, Maui County families are invited to attend a concert series that also recognizes National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Please join us in promoting the protective factors to prevent child abuse by attending the Mayor’s Proclamation and the first performance by Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band on Tuesday, April 4 at Maui County Building Front Lawn at 9:00am. Concerts follow in Lahaina on April 5, Lana‘i City on April 6 and Kaunakakai, Moloka‘i on April 10.

The Hawaii Association for the Education of Young Children believes that never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing. Month of the Young Child™ and National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibility, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that will promote their early learning and thriving.

Come and howl with The Dogs and Uncle Wayne to raise awareness about child abuse prevention and to promote early learning with The Band’s unique interactive concerts.

The Ho‘oikaika Partnership and State of Hawaii Department of Health recognize 43% of child maltreatment victims nationally and in Hawai‘i are under the age of five. This coalition of over 60 Maui County agencies and individuals is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect.
