Keawekapu Beach in the Wailea area is the family fun beach for both locals and visitors alike. Being of white sand, wide, and one of the longer beaches on the south side, Keawekapu has multiple entrances to help spread out the crowd. It’s a great walking beach bordered with private homes which give it a local, lazy feel. The small waves are fun for body boarding or jumping through the surf. The children love it.

The south side entrance lies at the end of S. Kihei Rd. and is equipped with a fresh water shower. This end of the beach has a small  lava rock and reef point that makes for a stunning early morning snorkel and all day tidal exploration.

The north side is situated by the Mana Kai hotel and is protected by the wind when the trades start to blow in the late morning or early afternoon. There is a small rock and reef point on this side as well, so the morning snorkeling is good too. The hotel has a shower that a lot of the beach goers use, and there is a restaurant and deli for some dinning.

The middle entrance across the street from the parking lot that lies in the park-like setting of a private community is know as “side-walks”. This entrance also has a fresh water shower and a paved access to the beach. From this entrance it’s all sand on both sides and beach goers spread out either left or right. During the summer and sometimes the winter locals surf the sand and rock bottom just a few yards off-shore, so the waves will get a bit bigger here, causing some rip-tides – watch the kids when the waves are up.
