MAPA LIVE is searching for approximately ten singers ages 9-15 to sing in the Children’s Chorus in Evita. Singers should be confident young performers with a passion for singing and the ability to match pitch with accuracy and consistency.
Rehearsals run weeknights and Saturday afternoons in MAPA Main Studios in Wailuku. The Children’s Chorus will rehearse approximately twice a week beginning in late June. In early August rehearsals will increase to every weeknight and Saturday afternoon. Rehearsals during the week of August 17 may run as late as 10:30 pm. Performances are August 21-30 at Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.
Evita is directed by David C. Johnston, with music direction by Gary Shin-Leavitt and choreography by Andre Morissette. The cast includes Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom as Eva Peron, Francis Tau’a as Juan Peron, Kepa Cabanilla-Aricayos as Che, Danielle Delaunay as Peron’s Mistress, Joey Schumacher as Magaldi and an ensemble of 50 performers.
Please note that rehearsing and performing in the Evita Children’s Chorus is a big responsibility involving a high level of commitment to the process, including late rehearsals on school nights in August. Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. Students cast in the Children’s Chorus are expected to behave with maturity and professionalism at all rehearsals and performances.
