Tuesday, October 23    5:30-6:30 PM

Asthma is the leading cause of missed school days for children, and one of the leading causes of emergency room visits for children.

For over 100 years, the American Lung Association has been the lead organization working to prevent lung disease and promoting lung health.  Lung disease death rates continue to increase while other leading causes of death have declined.  The American Lung Association has developed Asthma 101: What You Need to Know to address the growing demand for basic asthma education.  Even though asthma cannot be cured it can be controlled.  The presentation includes:

  • What asthma is
  • How to effectively control asthma, including proper use of medications
  • Recognizing the onset of an asthma episode and steps to deal with it
  • Recognizing when it is an emergency and what to do
  • Understanding and avoiding triggers
  • Staying healthy with asthma

Participants receive a 60-page booklet on asthma to take home.

The presentation will be conducted by Linda Brady, Maui Coordinator of the American Lung Association in Hawaii.  There will be time for questions.  Linda will briefly touch on handling Vog and Cane Smoke as well.
