The saying Maui No Ka Oi has never been truer than during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This global pandemic has been unlike any other challenge we’ve experienced. Many have lost their jobs or are sacrificing their own health and safety by continuing to work on the frontlines. Teachers are working harder than ever to ensure our keiki continue to learn and develop through distance learning, and parents have now become teachers and finding out – it isn’t easy! The fear of the virus itself, along with anxiety about what the future holds, further drains our emotional and mental well-being.

And yet, through it all, the most incredible acts of love, compassion, and service are happening all around us. People helping others despite their own personal struggles. Whether through donations of food or other supplies, volunteering to assist those in need, or dedicating themselves to serving others – these are true heroes!

A partnership with Maui Health and Pacific Media Group, Hometown Heroes honors those in our community who are doing what they can, whether big or small, to help provide some sense of normalcy, security, love, and protection during these very trying times.

You can nominate any Maui County resident, of any age. A winner is selected every week, wins a $50 gift card, and is announced each Friday on 99.9 KISS-FM.
