54th Annual Makawao Rodeo Parade

Saturday, July 6th. The Grand Marshall this year will be Wayne Asue, starting the festivities at 9:00am – 11:00am. The keiki Stick Horse Race at 8:30am.
Several events are taking place. There will be face painting for keiki, Makawao merchants store and window decorating contest, book fair and craft making at the Makawao Library, parade T-shirts for sale at the Makawao History Museum, and Makawao Hongwanji’s annual Rummage Sale.

Project Backpack–Equipped to Learn!

Diabetes Health Fair • All Ages
Saturday, July 6 • 9am–1pm
Join us as we celebrate our 1st Annual Diabetes Health & Wellness Fair!  We will be offering free health screenings, fitness demos, door prizes, and an all-day open house.  Collaboration with other diabetes educators will ensure a day full of fun activities and useful knowledge to live a healthier lifestyle.

Volunteers are needed for Hawai‘i Nature Center’s work day on Maui

Individuals, businesses and civic groups are needed to spruce up Hawai‘i Nature Center’s (HNC) Maui campus that includes site beautification, landscaping and light construction projects. The volunteer work day will take place on the first Saturday of every month. Upcoming dates are July 6, August 3, September 7 and October 5 from 9 am to Noon at 875 ‘Īao Valley Road in Wailuku.

The nonprofit organization’s Maui campus in ‘Īao Valley suffered serious flood damage due to heavy rains over the last three years. The clean-up continues to restore the property to best serve the Maui community.

HNC on Maui also seeks donation of the following supplies: forever postage stampsfolding tables and chairs, insect repellent, walkie talkies, waterproof cameras and a wheelbarrow. Contact[email protected] to coordinate drop off of donations.

JAZZ MAUI PRESENTS TWO FREE FOURTH OF JULY CONCERTS

Jazz Maui presents two free concerts in celebration of Independence Day on Thursday, the Fourth of July, beginning at 5pm. The annual “Concert in the Park” featuring the Chop Suey Jazz Orchestra, vocalist Sheryl Renee, and the Maui Community Band takes place on the Lahaina library lawn. Fireworks follow the concert at 8pm.

The Chop Suey Jazz Orchestra is a 26-piece jazz band made up of local musicians, students, and music educators under the direction of Mr. Casey Nagata. Jazz and Blues vocalist Sheryl Renee received the “Presidential Seal of Approval” when selected to perform the national anthem for President Barack Obama in 2009. The Maui Community Band was founded by Lisa Owen in 2003 and today has more than 40 members ranging in ages from 8-78 performing patriotic favorites for this special occasion.

“Jazz at the Shops” takes place at the Outlets of Maui, 900 Front Street, Lahaina, with performances by jazz guitarist Prem Brosio, Jake Thomas Quartet, and the King Kekaulike Na Alii Big Band. The concert is the finale of a day-long celebration that includes food trucks, Aumakua Polynesian Spectacular and face painting by The Party Zone. Visit www.jazzmaui.org for more information.
