Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit

This weekend is filled with Chinese New Year celebrations. The County of Maui is hosting a Chinese New Year Lion Dance on Friday, January 27 at 9 am on the front lawn of Kalana O Maui, County Building, in Wailuku. The festivities will include firecrackers and lion dancing music including drums, gongs and cymbals to attract the lion. Lai see envelopes will be handed out for audience participation to feed money to the lions for good luck. Lahaina Restoration Foundation will celebrate at Wo Hing Museum and Cook House on Friday, January 27, 2023 with free festivities for the whole family to enjoy. Also on the west side on Saturday, January 28th, the Lahaina Cannery will have keiki crafts, taiko drums, and a lion dance from 12;30 – 2:30 pm. Maui Mall Village will ring in the Lunar New Year on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10 a.m., with a martial arts demonstration at Center Court, followed by a traditional Chinese lion dance performed by Saam Fu Chinese Cultural Arts. At the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, lunar celebrations will be held on Sunday, January 29th from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. with a lion dance performance and fireworks.

Art of Aloha

Maui’s 21st annual “Art of Aloha” is taking place at Lahaina Galleries in the Shops at Wailea on Sunday, January 29th, 2023, from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Come celebrate Hawaiian style with nine captivating artists from around the world. This inspiring event is free and open to the public; meet artists Alex Bernstein, Leon Bronstein, Guy Buffet, Dario Campanile, Ronaldo Macedo, Robert Lyn Nelson, Andreas Nottebohm, Steve Turnbull and Caroline Zimmermann.
