ʻOhe Hano Ihu & Pūʻohe Workshop with Gayle Miyaguchi

Have a musical kid? This family-friendly workshop at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens may be for you. Participants will learn the uses and stories behind the ‘ohe hano ihu (nose flute) and pū‘ohe (bamboo trumpet). Then they will make their own instruments and learn how to play them. The minimum age is 5 years old. All keiki must be accompanied by an adult. Limit 2 keiki per adult.

Akakū’s 2024 Community Connection Day

This gathering at Akakū will bring the Maui community and nonprofit organizations together for an interactive experience. 10 local nonprofit tables will be set up at Akakū Center outside of Akakū’s main entrance to showcase their missions, plus a booth supporting wildfire survivors, a keiki and adult karaoke contest, and live entertainment by Maui Taiko & Local Favorite “Homestead.” The event is open to the public and admission is free for all ages. If you can’t make it in person, you can also watch LIVE from 4:30pm – 8:30pm on akaku.org, on the free Maui Stream app, Akakū Channels 54 and 55, or listen to the simulcast on community radio station KAKU 88.5 FM.
