TRYING NEW FOODS: Getting Your Picky Eater to Try New Things

Banish picky eaters by making it fun (and even educational). Here are 5 tips on how to get your kids to try new and healthy foods.

1. Pick a theme. Make eating fruits even more fun by creating a theme. For example, make it a rainbow theme and have each fruit represent a color in the rainbow. Red: strawberries; Orange: orange slices; Yellow: banana slices; Green: kiwi; Blue: blueberries (of course!); Purple: grapes.

2. Turn the food into pieces of art (or just get a cookie cutter and go to town). A healthy veggie sandwich is always more fun when in the shape of an elephant. Or how about cutting that watermelon into stars? Your kids will love the fun shapes and gobbling up the goodness.

3. Put it in a cupcake pan. Create lunch in a cupcake pan, with each cupcake mold holding a different healthy treat. Make all the fixings in bite size pieces for little ones to gobble up easily.

4. Get them involved. Invite your kids to join you in cooking a healthy breakfast or dinner. Kids love to crack the eggs or tear lettuce for a salad. Once they take part in the creation, little ones are more likely to give it a taste when the meal is done!

5. Create easy on-the-go choices. Cut up fruit and veggies and put them into snack size baggies. This way they are easy for kids to grab when they need a snack on the go. Instead of pre-packaged, not-so-healthy choices, make it easy for them to eat best on busy school days.
