Teen Camp Kaluanui! (Ages 11 – 17)
Monday – Friday, 5 days / March 20 – 24 / 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Students will enjoy two diverse art forms in this week of creative exploration for teens! In the printmaking session, students will turn their ideas into printable images, transfer drawings to linoleum, and carve out their designs by hand. Each student will be encouraged to create up to four 8″ x 8″ blocks to be combined into numerous variations of multicolored prints. Teaching Artist Tania will then guide students as they proof and print by hand before stepping up a notch to learn about plate registration and the fabulous Hui etching presses. During the metalsmithing session, teens will become jewelry designers and learn to make pendants, bracelets, earrings, rings, and small sculpture-or whatever other metal creation they can dream up! With Teaching Artist Julie’s support, teens will learn the foundation elements of metalsmithing that all jewelry professionals know: cutting, drilling, piercing, and soldering metal. Teens will be amazed by their handmade jewelry and metal creations!
