The new Kula Park Playground will open to the public at noon Tuesday, Sept. 1, Mayor Michael Victorino announced today.

“This new playground has been eagerly awaited by Upcountry keiki and their families,” Mayor Victorino said. “This playground will provide hours of enjoyment for children, giving them exercise outside and important development of physical and social skills. I congratulate the Department of Parks and Recreation and contractor Maui Kupono Builders LLC for working quickly on this project and completing it two months ahead of schedule.”

“I also thank Upcountry residents for their patience while a portion of Kula Park was closed for this project. Now, they’re free to enjoy the playground during park hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I also ask everyone to keep safety in mind, exercise physical distancing, wear face masks and avoid congregating in groups of more than 10.”

Kula Park Playground is located off of the intersection of Kula Highway and Calasa Road. The project cost was a little more than $755,500.

Playground features include:

  • Little Tikes commercial playground, designed for children 5 to 12 years old
  • Multiple climbing and spinning apparatuses to stimulate children
  • Brand new ADA accessible walkway linking the upper parking lot to the restroom and play area
  • New ADA accessible picnic table
