MEO OFFERS LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE

DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE

WAILUKU, MAUI (Hawaii) – Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. (MEO) in partnership with the State of Hawaii will administer the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the County of Maui on the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai during the month of June 2011.  LIHEAP is available to low-income households having gross incomes and assets below 150% of the federal poverty level.   This is a Federally-funded program that helps eligible low income homeowners and renters with their electric or gas utility bills offering them one-time energy credits applied to their electric or gas utility account.  Assistance may also be given to restore or prevent termination of service; however individuals may only receive one form of assistance.   MEO has been a partner with the State in providing this essential service to the residents of Maui County for over 20 years.

Qualified individuals may apply from June 1 to June 30, 2011 at the MEO offices located at 99 Mahalani Street in Wailuku, 1501 Uakea Road in Hana, or 380 Kolapa Place in Kaunakakai Molokai, or 1144 Ilimia #102 Lanai City.  For hours of operation and criteria eligibility call 808-249-2970 on Maui, 808-553-3216 on Molokai, and 808-565-6665 on Lanai, or visit the MEO website at www.meoinc.com.  All offices will be closed on Friday, June 10, 2011 in observance of King Kamehameha Day.

MEO is a private nonprofit Community Action Agency whose mission is to strengthen the community while helping people in need… “MEO has been providing this service for over twenty years and has assisted thousands of individuals.  We are thankful to the federal and state government for continuing to support this much needed service,” said Lyn McNeff, MEO Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
