Maui High School’s Mary Jane Butac wins iPad at Maui Mall Family Sundays Event

iPod also awarded to Kahului School second grader

Ninth-grader Mary Jane Butac was awarded an iPad at this past Sunday’s Maui Mall Family Sundays event. The Maui High School student, along with iPod winner and Kahului School student Mari Yamamoto, were randomly drawn from a selection of nominated students, all who were recognized on-stage for achievements in academics and community.

Butac is a student at Maui High School and holds a 4.0 GPA. According to teacher Jonathan Fernandez, Butac always turns in quality work and has the focus and drive to attain any goal she sets for herself. Fernandez said that when fellow students seek her help, Butac helps them learn so they derive the answers and doesn’t merely tell them the answer.

Yamamoto was nominated by her second grade teacher Amy Inouye. “A walking ray of sunshine”, she finds joy in serving others in school or in the community. Yamamoto is an active member of 4-H and enjoys crafting and swimming.

All students that have been nominated and recognized at all Maui Mall Family Sundays events this year will be re-entered in a cumulative drawing for a chance to win a MacBook Pro at the Family Sundays finale on January 6, 2013.
