Happy Boys Day!

Queen Ka’ahumanu Center will celebrate Kodomo-no-hi or Boys’ Day on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10:00am to 12:00noon.

The annual event will feature carp fish crafts, special meet and greet with Captain America and Jedi characters, family entertainment, door prizes, and the first 200 keiki will receive balloons.

“Boys’ Day is a popular QKC annual tradition”, says Toni Rojas, Marketing Director. “Bring your entire family down for a fun-filled morning of activities”.

This holiday was originally brought to the islands by Japanese immigrants and the carp fish is a symbol of strength and success.  Hawai’i adopted this special occasion and welcomes all ethnicities to join in this special celebration in respect of children’s personalities and their happiness.

Come celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Makawao Library, by learning classic graffiti art techniques with local artist and educator Pam Hayes. Techniques will include bubble lettering embellished with drips, cracks, bricks and flames.

Sponsored by Maui Friends of the Library, this free class is designed for young people in grades 2 through 12. All materials will be provided.

Free Keiki & Parent Pizza Themed Garden Demo

Keiki and parents are invited to join the Blue Zones Project® for a hands-on gardening demonstration on Sunday, May 6 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the UHMC Community Service Building. Participants will learn how to start a pizza garden and each family can take home a pizza gardening kit.

The gardening demonstration is being co-hosted by UH’s Master Gardener Program, an educational outreach program administered by the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service.

Each participant will have an opportunity to make their own seed pots, plant seeds, learn about the different plants offered, and how to care for their plants at home. All planting materials and refreshments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle. RSVPs are highly recommended. Incredible Corals: Night at the Reef

Enjoy an evening under the stars at Maui Ocean Center’s iconic summer coral event, Incredible Corals: Night at the Reef. Known as the “Rainforest of the Sea”, Hawaii’s coral reefs are home to a diversity of marine life, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. Explore the Aquarium at night and learn about Hawaii’s marine animals and corals. Based on the lunar cycle, you may have the opportunity to witness live coral spawning in the exhibits!

Paddle Imua and the ‘Ohana Festival

‘Ohana Festival at Hawaiian Canoe Club! It is open to the public and we invite everyone to come down and help cheer on the racers as they cross the finish line. The ‘Ohana Festival begins at 1pm, with top race finishers expected by 2:30pm. The festival will feature live entertainment from the Old Lahaina Luau; a keiki zone with fun activities provided by Deep Relief//Peak Performance, Lahaina Arts Association, Maui Youth Art Outreach and Project Vision. Maui Brewing Company will be providing a beer garden (for race finishers ages 21+) and Aloha Mixed Plate will be providing food for all racers.  Available to all is ono food from Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, Vitalitea Kombucha and Island Cookie Company; prize drawings and a paddling relay race.
