Makawao Third Friday “Menehunes and Leprechauns”

Third Friday has the theme of “Menehunes and Leprechauns” featuring Maui’s love and unity vibes reggae band, The Lambs Bread on our mainstage next to Rodeo General Store. Cozmic Theo presents his power folk artistry in the Maui Hands lot, 1169 Makawao Avenue. And you won’t want to miss the delightful Pearl Rose singing her incredibly diverse repertoire at the Antique Boutique located just down lower BaldwinAvenue.

Previous world traveled circus performers, Eve and Travis, will excite all with their fire dancing acts throughout the evening,up and down Baldwin Avenue and the wonderful Classic cars will adorn the storefronts which are always a treat to see.

We are excited to continue our KEIKI ZONE, located in the Komoda Bakery parking lot with Melissa Buck of Rainbow Chameleon Art and her one-of-a-kind creative face painting, plus Crystalline with her fantastic balloon creations who will share their lovely art and charm with the keiki.

Cal and Tony’s ‘GET UP AND DANCE’ a Maui Line Dance Group will be demonstrating and giving short lessons enticing all toshake it up leprechaun style.

The Queen Ka’ahumanu Festival

Join us as we celebrate Queen Ka’ahumanu’s birthday with Hawaiian entertainment, cultural demonstrations, educational booths and history that honor and perpetuate Her Majesty’s legacy.

On Friday, March 17, a celebration in honor of Queen Ka’ahumanu’s birthday will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

This special ceremony will be conducted by the ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu Society including oli (chant), pule (blessing), history, hula, mele (song) and draping of lei on the Queen’s statue. Following protocol, QKC and KPOA present Kama’aina Nights with performance by Nahelu. The ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu Society will be the only group to drape lei on Queen Ka’ahumanu’s statue this evening. Public is invited to bring lei for draping to Guest Services and are asked to be respectful of the queen’s statue and surrounding areas.

On Saturday, March 18 from 10am to 2pm, the celebration continues with a birthday festival dedicated to Her Majesty that includes Hawaiian entertainment, cultural activities, educational booths and history. The ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu Society will also be on hand for further information and will sell society t-shirts to support their fundraising efforts to educate and perpetuate Queen Ka’ahumanu’s legacy.

In addition, students from kindergarten to 12th grade are asked to participate in the Queen Ka’ahumanu Student Art Contest by submitting art in any medium 8.5” x11” in size. Further details and application are available at queenkaahumanucenter.com
