Maui Academy of Performing Arts Presents “Red Carpet Mystery”

MAPA’s Murder Mystery Fundraising Gala

Friday, March 15, 6:00-10:00pm

King Kamehameha Golf Club

red carpet mysteryFollowing in the footsteps of last year’s wildly successful “Murder at the Juice Joint,” this year’s event will take guests back to the Golden Age of Hollywood glamour and style. “The Red Carpet Mystery” features an unforgettable evening of intrigue, entertainment…and murder! Hollywood has just wrapped up its biggest awards show of the year and you’re invited to the hottest after-party in Tinsel Town. While schmoozing with Hollywood’s elite and enjoying fabulous cabaret performances, careers will be made and broken, scandals uncovered, secrets revealed and a murder will take place.

With a V.I.P. victim and every guest a suspect, put your sleuthing skills to the test and try to crack this red carpet caper. Or just sit back, relax and watch the intrigue unfold around you.

This event benefits MAPA’s educational performing arts programs, which annually reach over 60,000 participants – children and adults – statewide.

Individual tickets are available for $150 or guests may purchase a table for 10 for the special rate of $1,350 (a savings of $15 per individual ticket). Tickets must be purchased in advance so for more information or to buy your tickets, visit www.mauiacademy.org and click on the “Red Carpet Mystery” image, or contact Peggy Harmon at 244-8760 or [email protected].

Haiku Family Movie Night

Haiku Elementary School Hosts Big Wave Surfing Stars and Hollywood Concept Artist at Haiku Family Movie Night

Friday, March 15, 5:30-8:00pm

Haiku Field House

Free and Open to the Public

jaws changing the gameThe Haiku Elementary School 5th Graders, the Class of 2013, will be hosting Haiku School alumni and big wave surfers Matt Meola, Albee Layer, Paige Alms, the Walsh brothers – Ian, DK and Shaun, as well as Marcio Freire, Francisco Procella, Kiva Rivers and director Wangdu Hovey at the showing of the movie “Jaws – Changing the Game” at Haiku Family Movie Night on Friday, March 15 at the Haiku Field House. The movie is free and open to the public.

The surfers will be on hand to meet with students and families from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. They will also be able to sign posters of the movie, which will be available for purchase for $1.00. The Haiku School 5th Graders will be selling food, drink and refreshments, and the proceeds will benefit their class trip to the Big Island at the end of the school year. The surf movie will start at 6:30pm.

The movie “Tangled” will also be shown at 5:30pm at the school campus for children who may prefer it over the surf movie. Hollywood concept artist and Haiku School parent Craig Mullins, who worked on the production, will be on hand to show the children original concept art he created for the film.  The film will start immediately after his short presentation.

“Jaws – Changing the Game” is a documentary focusing on a new generation of Maui surfers who have gone beyond the limits of big wave surfing by deciding that being towed into the crushing waves of Peahi – aka “Jaws” – wasn’t enough; they started paddling in to challenge these waves. This just released surf movie is from local company Peahi Surf Media and has only been shown at a few film festivals, including the Maui Film Festival. Haiku School is privileged to be able to host a rare community showing of the film.

For more information, contact the Haiku School Parent-Community Networking Center at 575-3004.
