Pacific Whale Foundation World’s Ocean Day

Celebrate World Oceans Day with us this Friday and be a part of the solution to plastic pollution!

At Pacific Whale Foundation, we would love for every day to be World Oceans Day, so June 8 is always a highlight of the year. We want to make it a day of inspiration and celebration for you as well, with a host of special activities led by our dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters.

ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

Beach Clean-Up Stations from 7am – 11am
Meet our certified Marine Naturalists at Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge and at Kahului Harbor for free clean-up kits and forms for you to contribute your data to our Marine Debris Monitoring and Removal Program. As a mahalo, you’ll receive Maui Ocean Center day passes plus a nature book for keiki or reusable straws from our Ocean Store.

Guided Snorkel Clean-Up at 7:30am & 8:30am
Join Maui Ocean Center’s team on an underwater clean-up along the Kealia shoreline in North Kihei. Bring your own snorkel gear, rash guard, and a cutting tool such as scissors or dive knife. Then enjoy free eco-friendly gifts from our Ocean Store and free passes to Maui Ocean Center.

Free Cruise from 8:30am – 12:30pm
Participants will contribute to citizen-science research on this snorkel ecotour from Ma’alaea Harbor to Olowalu which includes a microplastic tow, reef clean-up, and seawater sampling led by our onboard marine scientists. Space is limited and RSVP required by calling (808) 249-8811 ext. 1.

Youth Art Contest
Keiki can participate in the ‘Pollution Solutions’ art contest in summer Ocean Camp and online by submitting creative answers to the question: How will you help keep plastic out of the ocean and protect marine animals? Submit online entries to our Facebook page on or before June 8. One lucky young artist will receive a snorkel cruise for 4 or an Ocean Store gift certificate.

Dinner & A Movie from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Incredible Corals: Night at the Reef

Enjoy an evening under the stars at Maui Ocean Center’s iconic summer coral event, Incredible Corals: Night at the Reef. Known as the “Rainforest of the Sea”, Hawaii’s coral reefs are home to a diversity of marine life, some of which are found nowhere else in the world.
