Maui Memorial Medical Center Presents Summer Safety Fair
Maui Mall is proud to welcome the Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) Summer Safety Fair on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – noon. The inaugural event will showcase various MMMC departments and services as well as outside organizations and feature hands-on activities, demonstrations and educational exhibits.
Highlights include:
CPR Training: Free demo and classes on first come, first serve basis at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Impaired Driving Simulation Course: “Drivers” abilities are tested with vision-impairing goggles to simulate reduced functionality after varied number of alcoholic beverages
Keiki Helmet Fitting: Bike helmet fitting and safety information. First 75 children will receive a free helmet
Healthy Cooking Demonstration: Includes samples and free healthy snacks
Other topics covered will include Smoke Cessation, Suicide Prevention, Domestic Violence Prevention, Nutrition Tips, Stroke Education, Cord Banking and Malama Pu`uwai, a new education program for Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders that studies heart failure, and more.

Maui Mall Family Sundays
Maui Mall Family Sundays is a free monthly event held at the Maui Mall that includes educational-themed hands-on workshops, activities, exhibits, entertainment and games, Bingo, and prize giveaways. Each month will follow a specific theme such as Science & Agriculture and Language & Culture. Maui Mall will also award one iPad and iPod at each event for the student drawing.
This month’s theme will be Music & Performing Arts.
As part of Maui Mall Family Sundays, Maui County teachers are encouraged to nominate one student per month, even during the summer months, who stand out in academics and character to be recognized and rewarded at each Maui Mall Family Sundays event.
Select students will be presented with Maui Mall gift certificates as well as be entered to win an iPod or iPad. Additionally, students who are chosen from April through November will be re-entered in a cumulative drawing for a chance to win a MacBook Pro at the Maui Mall Family Sundays finale event on January 6, 2013.
Teachers are urged to nominate one student per event who has demonstrated strengths and achievements such as:
1) Student progress and proficiency or grade point average
2) HSA or Terra Nova test scores, if any;
3) Academic work
4) Awards garnered
5) Potential for success
6) Contributions to his/her class, peers and/or community.
