Summer Camp

Each camp session has a unique theme focused on a region or ecosystem on the island of Maui. All camps engage campers in scientific inquiry, innovative technology use, integration of visual arts projects, outdoor adventures, and FUN camp games and activities. Beach Volleyball is a favorite at all GeoExplorer camps! Campers are CITIZEN SCIENTISTS: they investigate the outdoor environment and upload data for real scientists to use. They use a mobile lab of tablet computers, a digital microscope, binoculars, and spotting scopes. All camps 
culminate with a multimedia show and a dramatic arts performance shared with family members on the last day.
Watershed Camp – Exploring Mountain to Sea Campers explore the outdoors on short to moderate hikes and participate in a GPS treasure hunt. Campers build models of watersheds, investigate native plant and animal species, build scale models of birds, and produce multimedia slideshows about our watersheds. This yearʻs camp is in various locations within the Waiheʻe Watershed, from the beach to the sand dunes to the mountain ridges.
Coastal Wetlands Camp – Native Wildlife Near Our Shores
Campers explore the coastal wetlands of Maui on the North and South shores. They participate in a GPS treasure hunt and use Citizen Science Tablet Apps to submit wildlife data. Campers conduct science experim
ents on wetland filtration, participate in a bird monitoring project, and investigate insects and more under the microscope. They build scale models of native and non-native wetland species and produce multimedia slideshows on the wetlands. Locations include Kanahā Beach Park, Kealia Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, and other Maui wetlands.
Makai Camp – Tidal Zone Treasures
Campers explore the intertidal zone and a traditional native Hawaiian fish pond on the shores of North Kihei and at Kanahā Beach Park. They use the digital microscope to investigate marine creatures, coral and sand. This camp includes a one day excursion to the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium. Students compile images and video to produce a movie on the intertidal zone. They build scale models of creatures and share a performance for families on the last day of camp.

CAMP DETAILS: All camps meet 8:30 am – 2:30 pm Daily. Each Camp Itinerary and Daily Meeting Locations are Provided Upon Registration. Campers bring their own snack, water, and lunch each day. After care is available up to 5:00 pm for $10/hour additional charge.

All camps are designed for children ages 7 – 12. If your child is older, but very interested, contact us regarding our Jr. Camp Counselor Opportunities. We are seeking qualified candidates to assist us.
