As many displaced families are coping with what feels like insurmountable challenges and grief, we’ve compiled a list below with generous offers from our incredible community to bring some light and joy to displaced families. West District Youth Free Play Program
Starting Monday, September 18, 2023 the Department of Parks and Recreation invites all kids to join for West District Youth Free Play Program. Who: Ages 5-10 (3 pm-4:15 pm daily) Ages 11-17 (4:15 pm – 5:30 pm daily). What: Basketball (M/W/F); Pickleball (Tues) and Soccer (Thursday). Where: Napili Park Outdoor Court and Field. DPR staff will provide all program equipment. Pre-registration is not required, but parents need to check in and sign a waiver prior to the child participating. With a simple donation of rice or canned food, you can enjoy the Haleakala 5-Line course completely free! Rice is preferred, minimum 10 lbs. per person (ideally two 5 lbs. bags). Food donations are being provided directly to Lahaina and Upcountry families via the Maui Food Bank, and every little bit helps. 
Tours are 100% free to kamaʻaina throughout the month of September with above food donations, and advanced reservations. Call 808-878-8400 to book now! *Kaanapali course remains closed at this time.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui’s registration for all 5 of their open Clubs is free for Maui keiki ages 9-17, open weekdays after school until 7 p.m. They also have a mobile outreach team providing drop-in youth development activities at Napili Park on weekdays 2 p.m.-6 p.m., weather and conditions permitting. https://www.bgcmaui.org


Kama‘aina Kids is offering free emergency childcare services at the Kama‘aina Kids Maui Evangelical Preschool located at 256 Hina Ave, Kahului for children ages 2 to 5 from 9 AM to 3 PM daily. This initiative aims to assist families directly impacted by the fire and to provide essential support for emergency workers who are tirelessly serving the community. The Hawai’i Wildlife Discovery Center at Whaler’s Village is open again and offering art-making every day – supplies provided. Entry is FREE. All ages are welcome, especially families with keiki who are not able to be in school right now. Also, free BBQ provided at the entrance of Whalers Village until Sunday from 9:00am – 3:00pm. Free parking at the Whalers Village.
 

In support of our Maui community, as we continue on the road to recovery and healing, Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center offers Art with Heart at the Hui! Join the Hui on Saturdays, 8/26, 9/2, and 9/9 from 10 am-1 pm for a series of hands-on art projects and activities the whole family can enjoy together as a positive and healing outlet. Maui Ocean Center is offering discounted tickets to kama‘āina on the weekends. Each Saturday and Sunday, kama‘āina admission is $10 for keiki (child) and $15 for makua (adult) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with last entry at 4 p.m.) A valid Hawai‘i state ID is required, with the exception of affected Lāhainā and Upcountry residents. Momentum Dance Maui invites those displaced by wildfires as well as first responders and their immediate family members to join them for a free weekly toddler time class. Reserve your spot by visiting our website to pre-register. Friday 10:30-11:15am. Ages walking to three years old. Dance, play and sing in a toddler time class! This class introduces our youngest learners to dance through songs, props, and obstacle course activities. Your child will be encouraged to explore their creativity all in the comfort of having a parent/ caregiver in class with them! Learn more at momentumdancemaui.com.

Free music classes at Anuenue Music Maui in Kihei for ages birth – 7 years and private lessons 8 years and up for those displaced by the Maui fires. For more details contact Tamara at 719-948-7789. 


Maui Onstage at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Mall, Kahului is offering Free Fall Tuition for those displaced by the Maui fires. Please email [email protected].


Free soccer for the fall season from Keiki Soccer ages 2 – 11 and partner travel team Maui FC ages 6 and over island-wide. Proof of Lahaina address is required. Contact [email protected]


Maui Aerial Arts in Haiku is donating its studio space Mon and Tues 8 am – 3 pm and Sundays 8 – 9 pm for any teachers looking for space to offer free movement (or other) classes to Lahaina residents or first responders. Please contact [email protected].


Kids Parties Maui would like to donate character appearances where displaced children of the fires may be gathering (shelters, hospitals, churches, fundraisers, events, etc..). Please contact Marissa at [email protected].


Kiffman Taekwondo in Kahului is offering free classes to all fire survivors. They also offer FREE 30-minute classes of  Qigong/Breathwork for Regulation of Stress, Trauma and Emotional Fatigue” on Tuesday/Thursdays at 7:00 PM. Please see more info on www.kiffmanntaekwondo.com


ARTLab in Kihei is offering two special events for families impacted by the fires: 
Free Lahaina Family Sensory Lab on Saturday Sept. 2nd from 11am-Noon. Ages 2-5 with caregiver (with a Lahaina ID). Space is limited – Click here to register. People of all ages facing displacement from the horrific Maui fires are welcome to take theatre/dance classes with MAPA and Evolution Dance Academy in Wailuku free of charge for the Fall Semester. All who are interested should email [email protected] or [email protected] to begin enrollment.


Learning Endeavors in Kihei is offering scholarships to families impacted by the fires for its After School Classes, Saturday Workshops, and Fall Break camp.  Visit www.learningendeavors.org and fill a short online form to benefit. Contact:  808-793-3322 or [email protected]  Space is limited.  


The Dojo Maui in Makawao is offering free classes to anyone displaced by the fires. Contact them at [email protected], call 808-757-8200, or visit thedojomaui.com for more information.


Gymnastics/Tumbling classes at a 50% discount off normal session rate, from now through the end of 2023 with a Lahaina ID. Please contact Island Athletics Maui. They are also working on setting up a scholarship fund for displaced families. 

Alexander Academy of Performing Arts in Makawao is offering free classes through December 21, 2023 to anyone with a Lahaina ID or recent utility bill showing a Lahaina address. Registration required. Uplift Maui in Kihei is offering free Silks classes for kids and tweens impacted by the fires. They are holding two free classes (and possibly extend beyond) if your family has been displaced. Mālama Yoga & Nature-Based Therapy  is offering donation-Based Keiki Yoga classes on Mondays 4-5pm in Haiku 9/11-10/2, with funds going directly to families impacted by the wildfires. Classes are led by an Occupational Therapist, so keiki of all abilities are welcome! For more information, visit malamayoganaturetherapy.com.


In the wake of the devastating Lahaina wildfires, our keiki are struggling. Trauma can cause learning loss and pose other learning challenges. Many of our keiki are in unfamiliar schools and homes, and they need our help. Announcing our Lahaina Strong Tutoring Scholarship Program. We will provide thirty free and fully paid tutoring scholarships for students impacted by the Lahaina fires. Each scholarship will enable students to attend thirty-two hours of tutoring.
