Starting at a new school can sometimes be a difficult transition for both you and your child. There is a new school layout to learn, new teachers and new faces.

In order to make it an easier situation, talk with your child about their feelings in regards to the change. Put a positive light on the experience and let them know it’s a chance to start over with a clean slate and an opportunity to make new friends.

Arrange a tour with school administrators so your child can get used to the school grounds and know the location of their classroom prior to the first day. See if they can even meet their new teacher or teachers and find out if there is a way to meet some of the kids before school starts.

As the school year begins, encourage your child to get involved with school activities such as sports teams, dances, clubs and activities. And most importantly, tell them to smile on their first day and as parents, do the same.
