Weighing as much as 400 pounds at adulthood, Hawaii’s green sea turtles are gentle and graceful animals.

They glide beneath the sea, propelled by their huge flippers, sometimes stopping to nibble on algae — the mainstay of their herbivorous diet.

There’s a lot to learn about these fascinating marine reptiles, which is why Pacific Whale Foundation will be launching several new sea research turtle studies off the coasts of Maui in the months ahead. Learn about the turtles by adopting a sea turtle through Pacific Whale Foundation’s new Adopt a Turtle program!

Please click here to meet the turtles in the program —
Lele, Shaka, Mohala and Pili Ko’a.

Adopting a turtle is a fun way to learn more about sea
turtles and to help support sea turtle research. With your
$25 donation you’ll receive:

• A downloadable Adoption Certificate personalized with your name
and a photo of your adopted sea turtle

• The story of your adopted sea turtle

• Maps showing sightings of your adopted turtle

All of the materials are sent to you electronically so you can print out as many copies as you wish.

There’s also the option of having them print out and mail your package to you.

There is also a Deluxe Adoption that includes all of the materials described above, plus an ultra-soft plush sea turtle — a great gift, especially for kids!

Adopt a sea turtle by September 30th and you’ll receive a free “I Love Turtles” bumpersticker. To get started, click here.

Pacific Whale Foundation will be starting with two sites: Makena Landing in South Maui and Olowalu in West Maui. They will be working to develop a database of photo-identified individual turtles and looking at what the turtles eat, where they spend their daytime hours, if individual turtles return to the same sites and the impact of boaters, swimmers and human activity on the turtles’ foraging patterns. Your Adopt a Turtle donation is U.S. tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
