It’s the new year and our Weekend Guide has returned after a short break to enjoy the holidays. It’s been a rocky start to 2021 with COVID-19 cases rising in Maui, let alone profound unrest in our nation’s capital. Here are some ideas to do with your keiki to get your mind off the madness!

Join a Reading Challenge

From January 1 to 31st, the Hawaii State Public Library System will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Books Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster. Centering on the theme of diversity, the winter reading challenge celebrates the transformative power of seeing oneself in a book. Explore titles by acclaimed national and local authors and reflect on your own personal story! They are challenging patrons to collectively read at least 1 million minutes during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at librarieshawaii.beanstack.org.
