Started by Keoki Kahumoku back in 1996, this contest is held year after year primarily so Hawaii’s keiki can gain experience and be inspired to keep playing. The contest is open to grades K–12, so there is quite a range of talent. Everyone from beginners to those who may be working on their first album, are welcome to enter. “Over the years, we have seen a lot of talent come through,” says Orrin Cross of the Hula Grill.

There are three solo divisions (K–4, 5–8, 9–12) and one group division (all ages). 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced for all divisions. Top prizes provided and all contestants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, breakfast and lunch.

Pre-registration is required and entries must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 5. Entry forms will be available at Bounty Music, Hula Grill Kaanapali and online at: hulagrillkaanapali.com/ukulelecontest. For more information, call Hula Grill at 667-6636 and ask for Katie Say.
