Alexander Academy Performing Company presents the holiday tradition, The Nutcracker. This full-length ballet features the beloved music by Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky, with costumes by Jennifer Oberg and her sewing hui and Alexander Academy. Five shows will run December 16th-18th at Seabury Hall’s ‘A’ali’ikūhonua Creative Arts Center, featuring over 200 student ballet dancers ages 3 to adult.

“I am incredibly excited and inspired to present our second annual production of The Nutcracker!” says co-artistic director Absalon Figueroa.  “It’s a privilege to revisit and rework this ballet with our teachers at Alexander Academy, and to choreograph on our talented dancers. We are constantly evolving and growing as a school, and with the addition of even more professional-quality costumes, our dancers will deliver a high-quality performance all while looking gorgeous!”

Executive Director Danelle Watson Keenan reflects, “The music from the Nutcracker warms my heart, and puts a little sparkle in my eyes when I see it performed live.  And this year, we are in the theater.  Thank you, Seabury Hall.  Absalon and Amelia are so talented as artistic directors, I’m thrilled to present this ballet to our community.  We are again collaborating with Jennifer Oberg and her sewing hui for more incredible costumes.  In addition, our acting, jazz and hip hop departments will be performing “Holiday of Dance”.  I’m very proud of our academy and the quality we produce. I am looking forward to seeing the magic that happens onstage.”

The two-act and three scene ballet tells the tale of young Clara who befriends a Nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. The Nutcracker turns into a Prince and takes Clara on a journey to the Land of Snow, an enchanted forest wonderland where they are welcomed by dancing snowflakes. The Prince escorts Clara to the Land of Sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Prince then tells her about their daring battle with the army of rats and she rewards them with a celebration of dances

Audience members are encouraged to attend multiple shows throughout the weekend to witness the Company’s full scope of dancers that include Ella Craft and Anuhea Kelly as the Sugarplum Fairy; Adele Fabbio and Skye Rosenblad as Dew Drop, Lilia Zangpo and Genevieve Kermode as the Rat King, and Robin Beck-Macklin and Moorea Feliciano as Clara. Zion Pradier joins the cast as the Nutcracker and Cavalier.  Zion is based in New York City where he dances for Complexions Contemporary Ballet. There he spent one fulfilling season as a Dance Artist. While at Complexions he performed five different ballets all choreographed by Dwight Rhoden around the world.
