This year, Maui’s favorite storyteller Kathy Collins has adapted the Okinawan story Pigs from the Sea into a new musical. Based on a true story, this 40-minute show tells the story of one community helping another after a disaster. Sharing the similarities between aloha and the Okinawan value of yuuimaru (the spirit of cooperation), the play is designed to inspire hope and healing for our Maui keiki.
Thanks to three generous grants awarded to MAPA from the U.S. Department of Education, Bendon Family Foundation, and Hawai’i Council for the Humanities, this year’s show is complete FREE for all Maui preschools and elementary schools.
